Kronplatz Ski Holidays

A jewel of the Italian Dolomites, Kronplatz (or Plan de Corones as it’s also known) is a fantastic ski area with over 120km of groomed pistes catering for skiers of all abilities.

Enjoy the Slopes

With the local area offering over 120m of fabulous slopes and an incredible choice of mountain restaurants, there’s plenty to keep skiers of all abilities happy. With the mountain affectionately known as the ‘panettone of skiing’ because of its distinct shape, beginners will love the gentle blues at the top of the mountain. More advanced skiers will delight in the Black 5 Challenge which invites you to ski the resort’s 5 black runs in one day.

With a bus connection now linking Kronplatz to neighbouring Alta Badia, adventurous skiers can even attempt the world-famous Sella Ronda circuit. Simply ski your way over to the bottom of the Piculin gondola and pick up the bus which runs every 20 minutes. If you don’t want to attempt the full Sella Ronda circuit, there’s plenty of super skiing to explore in Alta Badia as well.

Enjoy the Resort

There are a few different access points to the ski area but we’ve selected accommodation in two of the main hubs. San Vigilio di Marebbe, is a charming and pretty Alpine village where you’ll find a handful of shops, restaurants and bars. Riscone is a small village with good access to the ski area and a couple of restaurants. It’s also just a short taxi or bus ride to the larger town of Brunico with its historic centre, impressive castle and excellent choice of shops, bars and restaurants. Whichever base you choose, this area is renowned for the quality of its hospitality and gastronomy.

Where to Stay

Our hand-picked accommodation selection will allow you to make the most from your holiday in Kronplatz. Opt for the 4-star Ama Stay in San Vigilio or go all out with a luxury 5-star stay at the Falkensteiner Hotel Kronplatz.

Kronplatz Accommodation

Falkensteiner Hotel Kronplatz

The modern 5-star Falkensteiner Hotel Kronplatz enjoys an exceptional setting...

Après-Ski in Kronplatz

You won’t find wild après-ski in Kronplatz but there’s a huge choice of mountain huts where there’s fun to be had. Kick the party of with a bombardino (a local speciality, it’s a hot drink made with brandy, whipped cream, eggnog and sugar and will definitely warm you up). If you’re staying in Riscone, stop off at the Tenne bar on your way home – there’s a good atmosphere, DJ sets and live music. For those in San Vigilio, the après bar Scodada (part of the Bronta Hotel) has a fun atmosphere.

Dining in Kronplatz

You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to on-mountain dining with over 40 huts to choose from.

In San Vigilio, Fana Ladina serves authentic local dishes and good wines paired with friendly service in a traditional, rustic setting. For a really special occasion, push the boat out and try the three Michelin-starred Atelier Moessmer Norbert Niederkofler in Brunico where the chef offers a single tasting menu showcasing local, seasonal produce. The same chef has an on-mountain restaurant, AlpiNN at the top of the Kronplatz gondola – it offers stunning views, and excellent cuisine in an upmarket setting.

Activities in Kronplatz

Culture lovers will delight in the museum offering in Kronplatz. The Messner Mountain Museum Corones at 2275m is well worth a visit. It’s an architectural triumph and is dedicated to the lives of mountaineers and climbers. There’s also a second on-mountain museum, Lumen, which documents the history of mountain photography. For a more adrenaline-filled activity, why not give sledging a go? There are dedicated sledging runs in both Riscone and San Vigilio which are fun for all the family. For something really special, why not book a helicopter sightseeing excursion to have the best views dramatic Dolomites?
