St Moritz Ski Holidays

St Moritz needs no introduction. A world-renowned, exclusive resort attracting the international jet-set, this is where beautiful people congregate and it’s the place to be seen in the Alps. With a huge high-altitude ski area to explore and scenery that will make your jaw drop, St Moritz is a veritable Alpine playground.

Enjoy the Slopes

Sitting between 1800 and 3300m, the ski area in St Moritz offers snow sure, high-altitude skiing all winter long. With 350km of pistes to explore it’s also a huge ski area. Many visitors prefer to visit the designer shops or sample the fine restaurants rather than ski, so you’ll find wonderfully quiet pistes, perfect for cruising around.

The ski area is split into two distinct parts which are linked by shuttle bus. The area closest to the centre of St Moritz is Corviglia offering an excellent choice of blues and reds as well as some super dining options. The Corvatsch ski area, accessible from Surlej, opens up yet more skiing opportunities. The hardest part will be deciding where you want to ski each day!

If you are feeling particularly adventurous, there's even a third ski area which is accessible using the resort's fantastic public transport network. Take the train to Bernina Diavolezza (this train journey is incidentally the start of the stunning Bernina Express scenic train journey) and there's a cable car that will whisk you up to the Diavolezza glacier at 3000m with stunning scenery. There's a few excellent long red descents and it's a fun day out included on your lift pass.

Although there aren’t many pisted black runs, expert skiers shouldn’t be put off skiing in St Moritz. The resort boasts some incredible and varied off-piste skiing (to be explored with a guide) that is readily accessible and seldom skied. If you like eating up miles on the slopes, why not try the Snow Safari? You can ski from the furthest away point in Corvatsch at Furtschellas all the way over to Celerina in Corviglia with plenty of photo stops along the way.

Enjoy the Resort

St Moritz is a picture postcard town complete with towering mountains, a beautiful lake and an average of 322 days of sunshine every year. With such a glamorous crowd, it’s the perfect spot to indulge in some serious people watching. There are opulent restaurants and fabulous shopping opportunities everywhere you look. There’s also the world famous Cresta toboggan run – always worth a visit to watch the fearless hurtle down the mountain.

Where to Stay

There is no shortage of superb hotels to choose from in St Moritz and our hand-picked selection offers the very best in luxury accommodation. Choose from the iconic Badrutt’s Palace, the more modern Hotel Grace La Margna or the delightful Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski for 5-star luxury. Or for beautiful views and easy access to the Corvatsch ski area, the Nira Alpina is always a popular choice.

Après-Ski in St Moritz

Known for its elegance and glamour, St. Moritz offers excellent restaurants, trendy bars and cosy cafes.

Guests at the Nira Alpina should stop off at the Hossa Bar on their last run down the mountain. Here you’ll find a fun and relaxed atmosphere with Friday being the biggest party night! The Hauer RooBar is a popular spot for meeting up right on the main square in St Moritz with a large drinks menu including some local beers.

For a bar with plenty of atmosphere, an excellent drinks menu and a touch of understated glamour, the No5 Bar at the Hotel Grace La Margna comes highly recommended.  The Sky Bar at the Hotel Monopol is worth a visit for the views alone – the one and only rooftop bar in St Moritz, it offers stunning views over the town and down onto the lake in a refined setting. For an upmarket aperitif in a sophisticated setting the Renaissance Bar at Badrutt’s Palace is well worth a visit.

The Pavarotti Wine Bar is somewhere to check out for anyone who likes to make friends. With shared tables, a casual atmosphere and no WiFi, striking up conversation with strangers while enjoying a delicious glass of wine is positively encouraged.  For something more akin to a pub, the Stübli bar at the Hotel Schweizerhof has a very down to earth atmosphere, often with live music where everyone is welcome. Think more pints of beer and less fancy cocktails!

The ultimate place to be seen is the King's Club in the Badrutt's Palace, known for its infamous party nights. It's the oldest nightclub in Switzerland and a must for any visitor to St Moritz.

Dining in St Moritz

When it comes to dining in St Moritz, you’ll be totally spoilt for choice.

On the mountain

White Marmot offers delicious, refined cuisine in a beautifully smart setting. The panoramic views are incredible and its location at the top of the Chantarella funicular makes it ideal for meeting up with non-skiers too. If you don’t fancy keeping your ski boots on while enjoying a leisurely lunch, slippers are offered on arrival! Paradiso has a gorgeous sun terrace, which is perfect for making the most of the famous St Moritz sunshine. If you like drinking, dining and dancing, make a beeline for this glamorous St Moritz institution. For top quality Italian cuisine check out Langosteria, specialising in pasta and seafood. The sun terrace of the Romantik Hotel Muottas Muragl is a fantastic spot on a sunny day with incredible views and good food. For something cosy and authentic, check out the Alpina Hütte – at over 100 year old it offers local specialities and home-style cooking. Plus it has a lovely sun terrace! Another cosy mountain hut is the Restaurant Trutz – a nice sun terrace, rustic interior and traditional food make this a welcoming option.

In the resort

You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to dining options in St Moritz. All three restaurants at the Hotel Grace La Margna are excellent: the Beefbar restaurant has an incredible atmosphere and definitely merits a visit (make sure to book in advance); for a cosy Swiss dinner Stüvetta is an absolute delight; and the panorama from The View is stunning. The Chesa Veglia has been attracting locals and visitors for decades and houses the Patrizier Stuben and Pizzeria Heuboden serving delicious food in cosy, intimate surroundings. There’s a strong Italian influence in the area with many excellent Italian restaurants including La Scarpetta among others. Look out for pizzoccheri on the menu – a typical dish from the neighbouring Valtellina region in Italy it’s hearty mountain food consisting of potato, buckwheat flour pasta, cabbage, cheese and garlic butter.

Activities in St Moritz

St Moritz is a resort with so much to offer non-skiers.

A must for all visitors to St Moritz is to walk around the frozen lake. It takes around an hour and is a magical, peaceful experience to enjoy. If you visit in February, it might coincide with the International Concours of Elegance, where you’ll see classic and vintage cars driving on the lake.

Shoppers must head to Via Serlas where you’ll find a seemingly endless supply of designer boutiques. This surely has to be one Switzerland’s chicest streets! Call in to a cosy café for a cappuccino and a slice of the local Engadin nusstorte – the Conditorei Hanselmann has an impressive collection of sweet treats and cakes to admire and indulge in and is historic institution in the town. Hauser Confiserie is another great choice for a delicious coffee and cake. Chocolate lovers should check out the  Läderach chocolate shop – this is some of the best chocolate you’ll find in the whole of Switzerland.

Other activities to choose from include horse drawn sleigh rides, ice skating, curling, cross country skiing and snowshoeing and to name just a few. If you like to sit back and admire beautiful scenery, St Moritz is the starting point for both the Glacier Express and Bernina Express scenic train journeys. What better way to make the most of this beautiful region!
